Somatic Experiencing ® therapy is a body oriented approach to healing the lingering imprints of trauma.
Somatic comes from the Greek word Soma, which means of the living body.
Somatic therapy helps us to reshape our relationship with stress and trauma. We become more flexible, kind and skilled with how we react to the stress we feel in our bodies. Our body changes and our mind changes - they work better together after therapy.
For women, we heal in the gentle. We pay attention to our cycles and adapt therapy to the strengths in each phase. We are wired with different needs for healing and nervous system regulation.
We understand the "body" is more than the physical body.
Peter Levine, SE founder, states that "somatic means the living, breathing, feeling, sensing and knowing body."
Some traditions refer to the "physical body, mental body, emotional body and energy body."
Somatic therapy includes all aspects of you, working towards alignment and a sense of flow that lets your life force energy move through you. With stuck survival states resolved, you have room for a full range of states of expansion that let you fully live and embody your life.

Our female cycles and the cycles and rhythms of our nervous system are intertwined.
Nervous system regulation helps us resolve trauma that has imprinted in the body. When we work with our female cycles, including perimenopause or menopause, we support our trauma healing.
And yet in most trauma therapy, no one is asking "where are you in your cycle today, or perimenopause/menopause journey?"
I talk with women every day - and most of us really don't know much about our cycle phases, and almost none of us know about how our cycle is affecting our nervous system.
Let's change that, and benefit your relationship with yourself, and your healing.
Somatic Experiencing® includes a branch that provides trauma resolution through co-regulating touch work.
The purpose of co-regulating touch is to support your system in coming into healing states, feeling connected and safe within yourself, through the co-regulation and support of the practitioner.
Co-regulating touch supports resolving
trauma and restoring peace and balance.
EMDR Therapy is a powerful and effective approach to treating trauma.
When EMDR is appropriate, I provide EMDR with Somatic Experiencing elements for a more gentle approach. EMDR therapy is not for everyone; sometimes Somatic Experiencing is more appropriate.
We can talk about that together and I'll share recommendations for you specifically.
