Somatic Experiencing® therapy is a body-oriented approach to trauma resolution, for growing resilience, clarity and expansion in your life.
We support your body-mind to resolve the lingering effects of trauma, or nervous system dysregulation.
Often in midlife, our bodies become more insistent that we actually respond to the past trauma or personal injuries that we've been pushing past.
The body is not willing to let it go and "says so" on your behalf, (discomfort talks to you)
because your freedom, peace and joy have more space and possibility in your being when you do address it.
Those lingering effects of chronic stress or trauma can show up as the thoughts you think and believe,
the undercurrent of physical stress in your body.
It could be you experience limits in your imagination & creativity,
an absence of something,
or feeling disconnected in relationships with others
or yourself; disconnection from your own path.
What does "Somatic" mean?
"Somatic" comes from the Greek word Soma -
meaning "of the living body" -
such as "the living, breathing, sensing, feeling and knowing body."
(Quote from Peter Levine - founder of Somatic Experiencing.)
Experiencing is a verb- meaning the healing happens in the here and now; you don't have to relive the past - and we slow things down so that the experience of therapy isn't traumatizing all over again.
Sometimes we weave in EMDR Therapy to resolve trauma memories
and build resilience.
We work with what is currently showing up in your body & mind, and gently support resolution,
through expanding nervous system capacity and flexibility.
This is more than learning to "regulate your nervous system."
Ultimately, we are helping build new pathways for your brain and body to work better together, so that you feel better inside.
We create conditions and allow experiences that support your capacity to hold peace,
balance and harmony
within your body, mind and spirit.
